Please send an e-mail to your legislator today, tell them you support School Choice! Throughout the session Ill do my best to keep you updated on the committee hearings when your testimony has the greatest effect. For the next 90 days, I believe the most important issue of the legislative session will be School Choice. In his State of the State address this week Gov. Sean Parnell announced that he was taking on one of the most powerful lobbies in Alaska, the teachers union, NEA Alaska. This could be the starting point for a more conservative legislature in Alaska for years to come! See excerpts of article below. But why is this such an important fight? There are many reasons but to me Education by Free Market is the number one overarching solution in our fight against tyranny. How else will we ever stop losing our children to the collectivist mindset they are taught in our public schools? And if you know me, I am always looking for an over-arching solution. I frankly dont want to spend my life chasing one bad policy after another. Bottom line is this: Call the legislators on the attached list and tell them to let the People of Alaska decide whether its time to vote for School Choice, just tell them you support School Choice and that they should pass HJR -1 in the House or SJR-9 in the Senate. These bills will put the question on the ballot next fall and the people will decide whether to repeal the Blaine Amendment. The Blaine Amendment is written into our Alaska Constitution and forbids our money from being spent on the schools we would otherwise choose for our children. This is a fight we can win this session! Please join me in calling each time you receive an alert from me on the day before the committee hearing on these bills. OR send an e-mail to those legislators on the attached list today. Theres lots more information on this issue. HR 9 was introduced by Rep. Tammie Wilson it recommends that the Dept. of Education stop the implementation of new Alaska Standards (Common Core). You can go to legis.state.ak.us/basis or to akleg.gov for more information. Or message me for a fairly comprehensive e-mail Ive compiled on this issue.
