Please welcome this family to Saving Paws. The backstory is we were contacted by another rescue letting us know about a family of dogs near here that had been living in a backyard. The owners had gotten the parents at 6 mos of age (they are now 2). The dogs had NEVER been in the house. Never had a collar on, even. The owners could not really even approach them, the female is practically feral now. They had 3 puppies in Nov. One died. One is a huge, healthy female. The other is a swimmer puppy syndrome dog. He cannot walk, he lies flat. The case is so severe that he can hardly scoot even. He is half the size of the other pup. The owner wanted us to take the dad, and the sick pup. He wanted to sell the mom and healthy pup. Over a 2 day period, we worked very hard to convince him to give up the entire family to the rescue. It was not easy. Once he did, it was then a matter of trying to get them into crates etc. NOT EASY. Since they would not even allow the owner to come near them. With a lot of patience we managed to get them safely caught and they are now with us. The swimmer puppy has gone into foster with a vet tech who has experience with this. We are hoping therapy will help him, like it did our Starsky - but this case is much worse. Keep him in your thoughts.
