Please welcome to the world: Kian Robert Jokela. Born July 26, 2014 at 2:56am. He was originally weighed in at 6lbs 10oz, but after successive weighings the next day, we learned the scale was off and the best guess is his birth weight was around 7lbs 5oz. He is healthy and very wide-eyed and alert. His delivery was slightly complicated, but everything turned out fine. At first he wasnt breathing very well and he was very pale. The attending pediatrician warned us that he would likely need to go to special care and spend time in an incubator, but he gave him 30 minutes with Melanie to see what would happen. After about 10 minutes he took a deep breathe and started to gain colour. After another 10 minutes or so, he started to nurse and hasnt looked back. The next morning that doctor could hardly believe it was the same kid. We are thrilled and exhausted. Melanie is recovering well and we are enjoying our new little bundle! Love, Ben and Melanie
