Please when looking for a dog trainer beware of trainers at corporate pet stores!!! Petco especially, majority of these people that call themselves dog trainers are nothing of the sort. Most have zero experience beforehand with dogs. Petco believes they can turn someone into a dog trainer in about 12 hours. Basically they take a few computer courses (watching a video) and shadow 2 classes. This means that anyone who has taken a dog training class ever, would in theory then be able to teach their own class. This is increasingly scary as your general public does not understand this and then when they cant get results, the dog is the one that suffers. Please understand a certified Petco Dog Trainer IS NOT a real certified dog trainer, thet certification only holds any bearing with Petco. Please, please do your research. Ask questions and above all else make sure they have worked with your breed of dog. It is appalling that they are able to do this, but that is corporate america for you. Especially make sure to steer clear of the PetCo on MidRivers Mall drive in St. Charles, MO. I can tell you first hand these Petco Trainers have zero idea as to what they are doing and have zero background with dogs.
