Poachers accused of killing a tiger near Masondi in Ghatang range of East Melghat did not only kill the tiger and a sloth bear by laying steel traps, but also consumed the meat of both animals. This startling revelation was made by the investigation officer (IO) in the court while seeking forest custody remand (FCR) of the six accused on Thursday. The six poachers are Nirafal Chouhan, his wife Minar and son Srival/Surival, besides Nipustan alias Lupustan Patle Pawar, Arjun Patle Pawar and Ujiyaar Dhurve, all from different villages in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. They had been arrested from a makeshift camp at Baner Fata in Pune on August 11.
