Pockets of army worms have been detected in some fields in Chipata. Chipata District Agricultural Coordinator Alfunsu Kahalawe says the affected farm blocs include Chitandika and Chiparamba. He says agricultural officers are currently carrying out investigations to ascertain the extent of the damage. Kahalawe has appealed to farmers in the district to be on high alert and report any strange pests to the relevant agricultural offices before fields are extensively damaged.
