Poets vs Rappers is entertaining. It becomes an performing art + competition (like sports meet), and I do see a wide range of subject matter/themes put into raps and poetry. Poets vs Rappers - SOLD OUT Date: Thu 24 Oct Venue: J2 Time: 7.30pm Price: £7 (£4 con) SOLD OUT Take 3 poets and 3 rappers. Take away the music, the props, bands and beats and leave their words. Give them 15 minutes each on stage and let the audience decide who the true lyricists really are. As part of the Cambridge festival of ideas, page to performance and Cambridge junction will bring together some of the UK’s finest wordsmiths in an all-out showcase of verbal talent, rhyme and reason. Batting for the poets are mark grist, famed winner of the don’t flop rap battles; Stephen Morrison Burke, the current Birmingham poet Laureate, and Hollie Mcnish, Glastonbury festival slam winner and radio 4 regular. For the rappers, we have three unique artists representing three different emceeing styles: hip hop, grime and drum n bass. For hip hop - Skuff, this years BBC introducing rapper of the week; drum n bass - Jimmy Danger, founder of record label audio danger records; and finally, grime fanatic Deanna Rodger, previous UK poetry slam champion. The event will be hosted by the superb Poetcurious and Michelle Madsen and djing by Inja. Whether you like poetry, like rap, think you love or hate them both, come and watch how these brilliant performers speak, shout, whisper and spit. Not literally. holliemcnish facebook/holliemcnishpoetry @HollieMcNish
