Police: House Of Ogun Lawmaker’s Dad Den Of Cultists The Nigerian police command in Ogun state, western Nigeria has declared that the Omu-Ijebu house of the father of Ogun state lawmaker, Remmy Hazzan, representing Odogbolu State Constituency , is a den for cultists. The two time lawmaker had accused the Police of infringing on the fundamental rights of his father by searching the house during the weekend without a search warrant. The crack team of detectives from the State Police Command led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abdulkadir had reportedly stormed the residence on the trail of two siblings of the lawmaker, who were alleged to be dreaded members of a cult group that has been terrorizing the Ijebu areas in the recent time. The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi however declared that the house was noted for harbouring cultists and that the invasion of Pa Hazzan house was in order. Adejobi who spoke on a Radio programme, monitored in Abeokuta today, said the wanted siblings of Hazzan had been penciled down by the Police detectives for being members of a dreaded cult group. “The lawmaker should remember that he has a case file with us over these two members of his family, during the 2012 local government elections, when arms were caught in their vehicle around Ijebu area. We are not just visiting any house for the sake of it. There has been over six months of Police details on them. “And I make bold to say and I stand to be quoted that his father’s house harbours cultists. We arrested over 17 persons around that Omu area alone for belonging to different cult groups. Some of them have confessed to belonging to one group or another and sometimes we do not need a search warrant to carry out our operations, the law allows it”,Ogun PPRO said. Adejobi added that the operation to clear cultists from their different bases in the state, “should not be politicized. The government of Ogun state is in the know of this determination to get off these boys from the street. The operation did not mean to target anybody to score any political gain. We actually started from Ibafo area in Obafemi Owode local government about four weeks ago before moving to Ijebu area and it will still continue,” the Command image maker said. —Abiodun Onafuye /Abeokuta
