Police are investigating after a carjacking of man at Jesmond, near Newcastle, last night. About 5.10pm (Tuesday 15 July 2014), a 26-year-old man parked his car in a driveway on Blue Gum Road. As he was locking the car two men approached him from behind. One of the men pointed a firearm at the 26-year-old and demanded the car keys. He then got into the car, drove a short distance down the street and got out of the car. Both men then ran from the location. Police were contacted and Newcastle Local Area Command attended commencing an investigation. A search for the two men was conducted with the assistance of the dog unit, but they were not found. Investigators would like to speak to two men that might be able to assist with inquiries, they were described only as Caucasian appearance and wearing red beanies. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information surrounding the carjacking is asked to make contact with the authorities.
