Police are investigating after multiple vehicles collided on the Cumberland Highway in Fairfield West last night. About 5.15pm (Saturday 26 July 2014), emergency services were called to the intersection of Cumberland Highway and Hamilton Road, after reports of a multiple vehicle collision. Officers from Fairfield Local Area Command attended, and found a tow truck and five vehicles had collided with significant damage. The vehicles; a tilt-tray tow-truck, a Mazda 323, a Mitsubishi Challenger, a Toyota Tarago, a Mitsubishi Pajero, a Honda CRV and a further vehicle on the back of the tow-truck. Investigators were told that the tow truck allegedly crossed lanes and collided with a traffic control light, before colliding with five cars stopped at the intersection. There were no serious injuries as a result of the collision however six people were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries. Three people went to Westmead Hospital and the other three went to Liverpool Hospital. All drivers underwent mandatory testing. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
