Police have charged a man after he kidnapped a woman in Batemans Bay on the weekend. About 12.30pm (Sunday 6 April 2014), a 46-year-old man who was staying at an accommodation place on Beach Road, Batehaven, approached the manager, a woman, and allegedly forced her into her own car at gunpoint. Police from Far South Coast Local Area Command were patrolling the area and saw the 46-year-old man; officers negotiated with the man, who allegedly handed over a replica toy firearm, and was arrested. The man was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage, intimidate intend fear physical harm, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place. He was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court yesterday, where he was again refused bail to appear on at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 28 April 2014. Detective Inspector Dave Cockram from Far South Coast Local Area Command said “the police involved should be commended for their actions during such a testing situation yesterday. “Police brought about a swift conclusion to a potentially serious incident. “The officers put the safety of the community ahead of their own personal welfare, and prevented this incident from escalating,” he said.
