Polytechnic Students Protest ASUP Strike in Lagos Students of Nigerian Polytechnics meet together early this morning at the University of Lagos junction to begin a protest march against the protracted ASUP strike. As the emergency meeting (March 12, 2014) held between the striking polytechnic lecturers and the Federal Government ended in a deadlock, ASUP strike goes on. ASUP and FG had several rounds of unsuccessful talks since the nationwide strike had started in October 2013. The polytechnic lecturers’ demands go further beyond personal monetary issues: roper funding of polytechnics and an end to the discrimination of polytechnic graduates in the labour market. In reaction to the lingering strike students of Polytechnics decided to begin a protest march against the protracted ASUP strike as they want to come back to their classrooms and continue education. During the protest they hold posters saying: We say no to strike, we want to go back to our classroom, Education our right not a privilege, Spend money on education sector not on a National Conference.
