Pope Francis re-echoes 2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore, all have died.” He exhorts everyone to bring affection to all the elderly and infirm brothers and sisters. According to him, conversion to the newness of the Gospel entails a daily encounter with the Lord in prayer, living lives that reflect the poverty of Christ, whose entire life was focused on doing the will of the Father and serving others. Only by becoming poor ourselves, by stripping away our complacency, will we be able to identify with the least of our brothers and sisters.
