Post 71 PpiF Book Two - Part Two Expansion activities:- let the students 1) experience playing the full chord if their fingers are independent enough 2) repeat each piece to change the articulation (eg legato then to staccato and vice-versa) 3) repeat each piece to change dynamics (eg medium loud to medium soft and vice-versa) 4) transpose to G and F major (eg page 25 - bars 5 - 8 - remind the black keys of F minor) 5) improvise by adding auxiliary note between repeated notes (eg page 19 - bars 2 and 4) There you are - you have challenge them more than the minimum requirements of learning at this level. The above are five suggestions. It is not necessary to experience all the five ideas if the student is already coping just fine with the basic. Expansion activities should not hold back learning new pieces. New piece/s is/are necessary for freshness and to capture students interest to attend lesson. Take the natural path and time to develop the students musicianship. Do not rush this matter. The expansion activities above will make them very aware of listening to their own performance and appreciating music in general. The contrasting expressions experience (articulation and dynamics) allows them to be alert and this is part of aural training for British music examinations. On the lighter side of matters - how was/is the mulled wine making? Do you enjoy the warm drink (if it is your first time)? Post 72 will focus on PpiF Book Two - Part Three.
