Post no.20: OPERATIONAL MANAGER NURSING (Speciality: Paediatrics) CORE TITLE: NURSING AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL Institution: Mitchells Plain District Hospital (Chief Directorate: Metro District Health Services) Remuneration: R 376 815 (PN- B3) per annum Service benefits: 13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance. Requirement Minimum educational qualifications: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification, with duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Child Nursing. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. Experience : A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1 year post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care Nursing: Child Nursing. Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness to work after hours and overtime as required. Valid driver’s licence (Code EB). Render support service to nursing management by means of after hour hospital cover and relief duties as required. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Sound knowledge and understanding of nursing and health service related acts, legislation and policies. Leadership and sound interpersonal and motivational skills. Computer Literacy (MS Word: Excel, email and PowerPoint). Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape. Knowledge and skills in conducting research/surveys and compiling comprehensive reports. Ability to facilitate and promote training. Analytical thinking, independent decision making and problem solving skills. Duties (key result areas/outputs): Plan, organise and supervise personnel for the provision of quality health care. Develop nursing quality improvement plans, guidelines, indicators, policies and standard operating procedures. Develop nursing care plans and ensure implementation according to nursing discipline scope of practice. Patient education according to individual needs. Ensure client safety and security at all times. Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data collection and capturing. Support and implement quality assurance programmes and initiatives and monitor standards of practices and adherence to National and Provincial policies and Core Standards. Promote and facilitate in service training and development. Effective resource management (human, financial, physical). Ensure compliance to professional, legal and ethical standards governing nursing practice.
