Post semester ponderings: Arent evaluations funny, usually the only ones who leave comments are the ones who are upset about something. Plus, the return rate is so minimal....kind of like Taco Bell asking you to go to the website on the receipt and let them know how they are doing. So...how many of you rush home to do that? Same with student class evaluations. They are done voluntarily with a minimum return rate...which statistically makes the results pretty invalid. Honestly, I really stopped obsessing over them years ago. I am secure in my teaching ability and know my weaknesses, like punctuality is NOT my forte for my first class. So, for the students who reinforce that on the evaluations, you arent telling me anything new. And someone thinks Im disorganized? Hmmm.....we all dont organize things the same way...so that one does have me a little baffled. I would challenge anyone to step in my shoes and lets see how he/she would organize all that Im doing. LOL AND for those who have commented that Im THE BEST teacher theyve ever had.....well.....I try my best and I think the majority of my students feel that way. However, its usually only the extremely small percentage who feel the opposite that reply to the contrary, yet they may outnumber the official positive comments because those who love the class have stayed after class time and again to express it to me personally instead of on an electronically submitted form. Which...is why I hardly ever think about the evaluations at this stage in my career. Yes...evaluations are funny...and I mean it...I usually chuckle when I read them. I love teaching what I teach. I love my students. I am blessed.
