FINCA’s mission is to provide small loans of working capital to low-income families to help alleviate poverty. FINCA International is seeking to recruit dynamic, self motivated, result oriented professionals to fill two positions below for its subsidiaries in Africa. CEO of FINCA’s Energy Program (Long-term Consultant Position) SUMMARY FINCA seeks a strong leader to launch and lead a large-scale micro-energy business in Uganda and eventually surrounding countries. FINCA will launch a new program to promote the sales and distribution of renewable energy products, with FINCA subsidiaries providing consumer and supply chain financing. The CEO of FINCA’s energy program will be based in Uganda, would report to the Director, Research and New Business Initiatives, at FINCA International in Washington, DC. The CEO position would be structured as a long-term consultancy of at least 1 year, with the intention of turning into a full time position based on performance. Start date is August 30, 2013. MAIN ACTIVITIES The CEO will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management of FINCA’s micro-energy business. This includes direct responsibility for the management of the economic and human resources of the affiliate, its operational and financial performance, as well as the development of its institutional capacity. In all his/her activities, s/he will be guided by the principle of good stewardship for FINCA and its mission, responsibility and accountability to FINCA and its authorized agents. In order to fulfill his/her tasks, s/he will provide best-practice leadership vis-à-vis the employees of FINCA; s/he will manage and will adequately and efficiently employ human and other resources. Launch the FINCA’s energy program and manage daily operations Ensure high quality customer servicing to the clientele, and maximize outreach to the target group in a sustainable way, Implement best-practice corporate governance, management, organizational structure and procedures, staff development, financial management, and risk management principles, Develop strategy for expansion into new geographic areas Develop good working relationship with FINCA subsidiaries for purposes of coordinating on financing and sales activities. Manage supplier partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders in the market: government agencies, testing facilities, donor agencies, etc. Initially manage 2- 3 sales staff. Manage an organization of approximately 20 managers and field agents within three years as program scales. Mobilize funding resources in form of debt capital, if necessary PROFILE: Education & Experience Advanced Degree in relevant field (banking, business, finance) Minimum 10-15 years of experience managing at least a small to medium-sized organization or division of at least 5-10 people Comfortable with all aspects of setting up and managing an organization, including operations, accounting, marketing, risk/ internal controls, etc. · Experience launching, staffing, and managing new ventures to offer products and services targeted at the bottom of the pyramid Experience in supply chain management, sales, and distribution. Ideally, candidate has successfully set up sales, distribution, and customer servicing networks, particularly in rural areas in East Africa Familiarity with microfinance (preferred, not required) Familiarity with sales and distribution of solar products (preferred, not required) Process mapping skills (preferred, not required) Self-confident and decisive Strong partnership management and negotiation skills Skills Fluency in English required. Computer Skills Expert in Microsoft Office. Able to generate financial models using Excel, able to create board and investor presentations using Power Point KEY DELIVERABLES Within 6 months, launch FINCA energy program in Uganda, with strong staff and a sound operational foundation Set program on a path to achieve break-even in 2 years Develop strategic plan to scale up within region TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Availability to travel up to 60% of time within Uganda, and eventually within E. Africa.
