Posted, Martinsburg Journal, November 29th......... A Tale of Two Professors In an effort to help every open minded citizen understand that the Democrat party, as represented by the current administration, is not acting in their best interests, or in the best interests of America, I bring you the tale of two professors. Both teach at world renowned universities, both are self-described liberals, and both ardently believe in many of the Presidents policies. Thats where the similarities end. What the Democrats are creating is something very dangerous. Theyre creating a president who can go it alone, and to go it alone is something that is the very danger that the framers sought to avoid in our constitution. Professor Jonathan Turley, George Washington University Law School Ive written about Professor Turley before. He is a Constitutional Law Professor who is a self-described social liberal. He supports much of the Presidents agenda, but warns that the means by which the President is accomplishing his agenda endangers the fabric of our system of government. He believes that by ignoring the constitutional limitations placed on the executive branch, the President is seizing authority he doesnt have. Congress, the professor says, is allowing this seizure by not challenging the Presidents lawless power grabs. He recently appeared on FOX News The Kelly File to warn that the country is at a constitutional tipping point, and that if Congress allows the President to go it alone, the result will ultimately be the collapse of our system of government. Professor Turley, who has voiced similar concerns about former President George W. Bush, has agreed to legally represent the U.S. House of Representatives in its lawsuit against the Obama administration for violating constitutional law in its implementation of Obamacare. Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage, and, basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically, that was really critical to getting the thing (Obamacare) to pass. Professor Jonathan Gruber, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Gruber is a professor of economics at MIT, in Cambridge, Mass. He, too, is a self-described social liberal who supports much of the presidents agenda. However, like the president, he believes that subterfuge is a legitimate means of giving citizens something that they may not want, but are too stupid to realize that they need. Professor Gruber is a government paid advocate of the implementation of Obamacare, a hired gun, so to speak, passed off by the administration as a neutral, independent consultant in order to give legitimacy to an illegitimate piece of legislation. As a consultant, he helped write this law in a manner that hid aspects of it from Congress and the public; details that the administration knew would not pass muster with the American people. The stupidity of the American voter reference involves, among other things, hiding astronomical tax increases needed to fund Obamacare by levying them on Cadillac insurance plans sold through insurance companies. The insurance companies, of course, pass these taxes on to consumers in the form of higher premiums. Professor Gruber has made over $6 million through various taxpayer supported agencies since hitching his wagon to the Obamacare gravy train. He has been ordered to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about deceptions in the implementation of Obamacare. Watch these hearings on FOX News this December 9th. I doubt the other news outlets will cover them. There you have it. Two unabashed liberals with similar backgrounds and social beliefs, each with his own views on how to present and sell those beliefs to the American people; one through open, transparent debate, the other through secrecy. Which one does this administration embrace? Which one does it scorn? No matter your political affiliation, you should be outraged at these tactics. Demand that your representatives adhere to the Constitution, and hold them accountable when they do not. If were not willing to insist that our elected officials conduct themselves with honor and integrity, then we deserve the government we get. Mike Holz Blue Ridge Patriots
