Posture/shoulder re-alignment video 1 In todays world all - TopicsExpress

Posture/shoulder re-alignment video 1 In todays world all have internally rotated shoulders due to how we sit and everyday tasks. having internally rotated shoulders means we spend most of the day hunched forward with a rounded back and a hidden chest leading to a rounded weak back both upper & lower, and poor posture and poor core engagement from the forward hunch. As an irish dancer it is critical we maintain perfect upright posture to assist in greater lift off the floor, less of a forward lean and more core engagement from holding an upright position. For a teacher this is a frustrating issue as they are constantly being told to stay upright and hold their carriage more effectively. For a dancer it is even more fustratating as they are being told to do this without being trained how to fix it. we can’t point out issues if we don’t know how to properly fix them right? I have posted a idea below for step 1 of shoulder re-alignemt and better posture. In this video you will see overhead rotations. the aim of the overhead rotation is to pull the shoulder blades back to full contraction and stretch out the pectoral minor muscle ( muscle that connects the shoulder blade to the chest - this muscle is always tight and engaged due to a constant forward roll of the shoulders) I completed this exercise before training after training morning and evening, It is also a great exercise to throw in right before you step on stage and will hold your shoulders back an extra inch for you. Grab a mobility band/jumper/towel or anything that you can get your hands on and Try this for step 1. When your able to ratite with ease keep moving the hands in slightly until you are able to get a full rotation with hands hip with apart. Give it a go and keep watching out for step 2 video :-) #laurenearlyirishdance
