Pound 4 Pound Presents: This Day In Boxing History (July 16th) 1983-07-16 : Wilfred Benitez 157¾ lbs lost to Mustafa Hamsho 158 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12 (FULL FIGHT) PART 2: youtu.be/wl23RzKh5CE PART 3: youtu.be/bfb-RSRMlhk PART 4: youtu.be/G4K611xIH1U Location: Dunes Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Referee: Davey Pearl Judge: Lou Tabat 109-118 Judge: Chuck Minker 111-118 Judge: Dalby Shirley 111-117 "A brawling Mustafa Hamsho thoroughly dominated Wilfred Benitez Saturday to take a unanimous 12 round decision in a middleweight title elimination bout. Hamsho took the fight to Benitez from the opening bell and kept Benitez pinned in his corner against the ropes for most of the bout. Benitez, making only his second appearance as a middleweight since moving up in class, seemed unable to get untracked and the few punches he managed to land did no damage. The most interesting moments of the bout came in the 3rd round when Benitez was thrown or pushed to the canvas on four separate occasions. Although Benitez was seemingly dazed at one point, referee Davey Pearl ruled no knockdowns and warned Hamsho for pushing and grabbing." -Associated Press Unofficial AP scorecard - 119-111 Hamsho Purses: Hamsho - $200,000, Benitez - $150,000
