Power Cords I have relocated a graphic I had misplaced, shown below. It is from the Paracas Culture of Peru roughly 2,000 years ago, forerunners of the Nazca, and it depicts flying spirits, with power cords, one connected at the navel. These are interpreted as spirit links to some source of cosmic power, but obviously they represent umbilical cords in the process of rebirthing. This I believe is a direct analogy to what is depicted in Atchiika Mound (Fisher Mound aka Alligator Mound) in Licking County, Ohio (graphic two.) The many parallels between the contemporaneous Adena and Paracas cultures are striking. Both were essentially mortuary cults that frequently practiced radical cranial deformation. Both built gigantic geoglyphs intended as signals to ancestral spirits flying overhead in bird form, both envisioned the afterlife rebirthing process as a direct analog of original birthing, and both, along with the Mayans, used the little smiley-face Ahau symbol to represent human spirits or manitous in other animal forms. Such extreme parallelism implies contact, but how the route of diffusion went from Ohio to Peru, or vice versa, remains to be figured out.
