Prayer for March 16, 2014 - Second Sunday of Lent Oh Lord, once again we are on a Lenten Journey. This is a time we set aside each year to devote ourselves to you. How strange it must seem to you, that we keep coming to this time of year, briging ourselves before you, seeking your guidance and power as we decide how we will focus our lives on you - even if it is only for the next forty days. It is not what we sing, for our songs are all about devotion to you, dependence upon you. Our songs lift you up as the source of all that we have and know, the answer to all our concerns, the source of all strength and hope and purpose...and yet... And yet, here we are again, another Lent, another time when each person will decide if they are just going to go on as usual OR if they are going to take this season as an opportunity to discover that what we sing is true. Help us we pray to realize that we need to divert ourselves from all that is the norm, the busy-ness of our schedules, the false importance of so many things from sports to fashions to other’s opinions, the misplaced value we place on money and goods, comfort and leisure, security and even health. Help us to turn to you as the one thing that is true and sure, certain and clear. The reason we so often avoid the Lenten Road is because the way is hard and path is narrow, and we like the easy way. We like deluding ourselves with the notion that if we are with Jesus that all roads will be clear, no icy spots will surprise us, no hazards overtake us. Help us to walk this year’s Lenten Road with our heads held up, eyes open, engaging rather than avoiding, confronting rather than hiding, admitting rather than deceiving. We who look so strong are really so weak, and those of us who look so together, so with it, so sure, so certain are all made of clay. But that too is okay - for you are the potter, we are the clay, mold us and make us, like you today. Keith D. Strain
