Prayer or Action - this is something I was reminded about last night and its always been a pet peeve of mine when people say Ill pray on it when given an opportunity to serve The Lord. Check this out ... Love love love this ! As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” (Acts 9:3-6 NIV) Notice go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”... Paul didnt say, well... Let me pray on it he just went. Faith in Action! Look here; As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. (Exodus 14:10-15 NIV) So often people look at the part of this passage that says be still because the Lord will fight for us, and thats true but what about the tell the Israelites to move. Notice, They were terrified and cried out to the Lord ...they were scared and prayed and the Lords response, Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. So often we are given opportunities to serve - FROM THE LORD - like we see in the Bible in Mark 15:16, go out and make disciples of all nations baptizing in the name of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit, and we, given an opportunity to serve, instructed to GO, our response is to pray or say something like... once all these conditions are met, these loose ends are tied up then Ill be ready to go and do that and we pray. Essentially telling God to wait and then using prayer as an excuse to justify our fear and we ask The Lord to just confirm, is what you want me to do and all the time Hes already given you the instruction go out, get moving. Prayer is nice but action is what the Lord desires from us. You can sit in the pew and study and confirm over and over again in your mind that the Bible is for you. Is it or is it not the inspired infallible perfect word of God, the living word, a love letter from God for us or is it a historical reference? We can ask over and over, God, is this what you want me to do? And all the while Hes probably shaking his head and saying, Ive already given you the answers, Dont be afraid, Go. Im with you. I believe this, do you? Look here; 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? - James 2:18-20 Go, dont just sit and study Christian! - implement your faith and go tackle the mission in your heart that The Lord placed there. Step out in faith and act. Stop using prayer as a crutch for fear and believe! Go and pray as you work and move in His name, but pray for wisdom as you move, pray for others in your mission and GO. Reflect Christ! Erik
