Prediction: (You will think Im nuts but, trust me, Im on point here). The top college football teams are threatening, no planning, to go their own way to get out from under the control of the NCAA. Why? They are under attack and they know it. When was the last time you heard of a womens basketball program probated for recruiting violations? Trust me. It gets dirty out there. You havent heard of any in any recent history. Football is under surveillance 24/7 for even the most minute infractions against rules that just keep coming at them. Its going to stop. So, high school football in Colorado (and other states) continues to be the only sport where the only team a kid can play for is the high school team. He is punished for transferring to the best place for him to play and get opportunities. High school football is under the complete control of District Administrators, CHSAA, School Administrators and, sometimes, completely incompetent coaches that think they are the sheeeeeeeiiiiiizell! Some are great coaches, a lot arent. Even the best coaches at the very least have to cave to rules set upon them by the districts that they absolutely hate or they lose their teaching jobs. This is no idle threat. You comply or you are GONE. Honey, I lost my job for not compromising my athletes. Every other sport has club teams most of which are more important to colleges for recruiting than the high school team. The club is completely free from School District and School control about player access from coaches, training etc. If you dont play on a good club soccer team? Forget it. Baseball traveling team? Forget it. Basketball AAU club tournament team, Almost forget about it. Lacrosse? Hockey? The list goes on. Club football will rise and take the sport out from under the astonishingly bureaucratic control of districts and administrators giving the best players the opportunity to get the best coaching and play in better environments for their progression. Ive been predicting this for a while with tongue in cheek. The tongue is out of cheek. It will be years, but not many. And the best coaches will be paid the most making their measly stipends look ridiculous and they will migrate. Bank on it.
