Prescribed burn at Para Wirra Recreation Park A prescribed burn is planned at Para Wirra Recreation Park tomorrow, Tuesday, 18 November 2014. - The prescribed burn is expected to start at 10am and ignition should be completed by 8pm. - The burn will affect about 40ha of land in the south-eastern area of the reserve adjacent to the southern side of Humbug Scrub Road, Humbug Scrub, about 8km east of One Tree Hill. - The burn area, including Ruins Track and Mack Creek Track, will be closed to the public. - Smoke is expected to be visible in the area for a few days and is likely to impact residential properties along Bassnet and Humbug Scrub Roads. - Crews will remain at the burn site until it is safe to leave. The burn will be carried out by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) on behalf of the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Co-operative. The primary objective of this burn is to reduce fuels in the area to prevent the spread of bushfire. It is part of a state-wide program of prescribed burning in high-risk public land areas this spring. Creating strategically-located, fuel-reduced areas through prescribed burning is essential in helping to reduce the potential spread and impact of bushfires on communities and the environment by providing earlier containment options for firefighters. A list of the week’s planned burns is available on the DEWNR website, at environment.sa.gov.au/firemanagement/Burns_and_bushfires. Subscribe to DEWNR’s fire management email updates for information on prescribed burns and other fire management activities at environment.sa.gov.au/firemanagement/Home/stay-informed. You can now follow DEWNR on Twitter at https://twitter/SADEWNR Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
