President Goodluck Jonathan and the usual Jerusalem Pilgrimage - TopicsExpress

President Goodluck Jonathan and the usual Jerusalem Pilgrimage carnival show: Ever since he was thrust into the Presidency of Nigeria as its helmsman both as acting and substantive, President Goodluck Jonathan has always used religion as an instrument to con the people as a man of God while deflecting from the major issue of his abysmal performance of his constitutional responsibility. If he is not visiting different churches for Sunday worships, he never shies away from major Christian programmes to potray his christian affiliation just to whip up sentiments which makes one to wonder and ask if his predecessors in office never belonged to any religious faith? Prior to the 2011 general elections, one of his gimmick that he used to win over the emotions of gullible Nigerians was the picture of him which went viral, kneeling down before the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye. Just like has become his usual practice or yearly ritual, President Goodluck Jonathan has behaved true to type with the wide publicity given to his religious pilgrimage to Jerusalem, an issue that is supposed to be a personal spiritual medium of communication between him and his God, rather President Jonathan has turned it into a show thing just because of his 2015 Presidential ambition. However, very mindful of what a religious exercise like a pilgrimage is meant to serve and the abuse of it by Mr. President, one can only take solace in the admonition of our lord Jesus in Matthew 6:5 where he said And when thou prayest, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Going further he adds in, Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. In line with this biblical injuction which is the truth, I say to President Jonathan, you have received your reward as the people have seen through this deceit.
