The “eternal president” President Mei Yiqi of cross straits Tsing Hua had uttered these eternal words about higher education, namely “the greatness of a university is not measured by its grand mansions, but by its intellectual maestros.” Unquestionably, Peter Salovey of Yale and Irwin Jacobs of Qualcomm are indeed exemplary in this regard. Welcoming them both in NTHU’s family will no doubt bring us closer to the dream of President Mei.” Dr. Irwin Jacobs is a world renowned electrical engineer, a co- founder and the former Chairman of Qualcomm Corporation. Qualcomm is an American global semiconductor company that designs, manufactures and markets digital wireless telecommunications products and services. NTHU recognize Dr. Jacobs for his invention of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology that is deployed in billions of mobile phones, for his outstanding entrepreneurship that created a global wireless telecommunications company, and for his profound respect for education and human dignity.
