Press Release from Wheeling: Party on the Patio Welcomes Students, Community Free Concert, Lantern Release Planned for September 6 Wheeling, WV – To welcome back students and bid an unofficial farewell to summer, Downtown Wheeling, Inc. is hosting a free Party on the Patio concert as part of First Fridays on September 6. KR-3 and The Other Tribe are set to perform outside WesBanco Arena, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Other Tribe is a performance drum circle and fire dance troupe that will kick off the evening’s festivities, followed by the Wheeling-based “psychedelic jam rock band” KR-3. The outdoor concert is open to all ages and free to attend, with concessions available inside the Arena. At 9:00 p.m., concertgoers are invited to gather at the Heritage Port Amphitheater to Light Up the Night. Members of Downtown Wheeling, Inc. will give out 100 red paper lanterns for attendees to release into the Wheeling skyline. Historically, soldiers used lanterns, or sky candles, to signal their location to their troops. The floating paper lights eventually became part of cultural rituals, as they were believed to carry messages to the heavens. Today, lanterns are commonly used in celebrations as a symbolic release of one’s wishes or prayers.
