Press release: Aviation Minister cars Scandal and The Arrest of Dino Melaye’s Over Protest. CODEN Decries the rate of Corruption in the Country: The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is the agency charged with ensuring the airworthiness of commercial planes flying within Nigeria’s airspace. The depth of corruption and mismanagement of public funds at Ministry of Aviation on the basis of protection is so outrageous. Imagine a Country where More than 80 per cent of Nigerians live on less than $1 a day, where it’s citizen is a long way from reaching neither the promised land of Education and with high rate of unemployment (The official unemployment rate had steadily increased from 12 per cent of the working age population in 2006 to 24 per cent in 2011). To mention but few. The upsurge of corruption in Nigeria in recent times is disturbing. It seems the menace has defied all treatment and the damages it has done to the national life cannot be quantified. fighting corruption can affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. The current culture of corruption hurts the majority of Nigerians while the inequality gap widens. we therefore recommend, that those accused of corruption and investigated should be punished if found guilty, irrespective of their positions and connections. The judiciary must not be partial and should be fair. In the past their failure to convict and punish high government officials has rundown trust in their ability to act as an independent branch of government. Past House of Representatives member and Executive Secretary, Anti-Corruption Network, Dino Melaye who led a group of protesters on Wednesday 23, October 2013, to the Federal Secretariat, Abuja calling for the sack of the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, over the purchase of two BMW armoured cars was arrested by police during the protest at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. This is a violation on human rights and is totally not acceptable. This is an attempt to intimidate other groups/voices calling for the investigation of the aviation minister’s scandal. We therefore condemn the arrest and call for the immediate release of Dino Melaye.
