Press release from the HCSO: Highlands County Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested one person in last weekend’s deadly shooting in Highway Park. The second arrest came following evidence uncovered during this current investigation identifying the shooter in an older case in the same neighborhood. As previously reported, on Monday, November 10th, deputies responded to shots being fired 162 Crestmore Drive in Lake Placid that resulted in the death of Johnny Trevor Jackson and injuries to Dejaveyon Gray and Ivey Williams, Jr. Throughout the week, following many leads and interviews, Detectives have arrested Wallace Damon Legree, 18 years of age, of 109 Robinson St., Lake Placid in connection with this case. Wallace Damon Legree is charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He is currently being held in the Highlands County Jail with no bond until first appearance on the Attempted Murder charge and $75,000 cash or surety bond on the Possession of a Firearm. During this investigation, it was learned that Dejaveyon Gray was also a victim in an earlier shooting back in December of last year. On December 10, 2013 at approximately 9:20PM Highlands County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a suspicious incident which turned out to be a shooting at 117 E.A. Smith Avenue in Lake Placid. Witnesses told investigators that shots were fired at a truck with an unknown black male inside. The victim was not located at the time however it turns out it was Dejaveyon Gray. Evidence was established to identify and arrest Wallace Latrell Legree, III, 20 years of age, also of 109 Robinson St., Lake Placid for that shooting. Wallace Latrell Lagree, III is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Improper Exhibition of a Dangerous Weapon, Discharging a Firearm in Public, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He is also currently being held in the Highlands County Jail with no bond until first appearance on the Aggravated Assault charge and a total of $76,000 cash or surety bond on the other charges. “Enough is enough for this small residential community. The neighbors are sick of it and the folks who have lived in Highway Park their entire lives are trying diligently to re-establish a safe and family oriented community. There is a team of residents working to clean up the neighborhood, instill pride in the community, and are quite frankly tired of the thugs ruining things for everyone, especially the younger children who live there”, says Sheriff Benton. “We hope that these latest arrests will send yet another message to the gun toting drug dealers to stop messing up their own neighborhood.” Both of these cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information on either of these cases is requested to contact the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and Detective Kimberly Gunn at 863-402-7250.
