“Pride comes before a fall…” (Proverbs 16:18). OUCH, what a way to end the skiing season! Yes, that is my right hand gluteus maximus with a quarter laying adjacent to the bruise. I was on such a “Prideful” high about 2 weeks ago, having consistently landed (9x) my year-end goal jump of over 40 foot horizontal air (launch-to-touchdown) at Holiday Valley’s Foxfire terrain park. Then about one week ago I was taking a smaller jump that I had smoothly landed about 30 times previously, but, unbeknownst to me, was markedly altered with a much steeper kicker (which, BTW, you can’t tell from the approach). Hitting it at my usual speed I sailed into orbit and came down painstakingly hard on my backside. My only vindication was that when I went back 3 days later, that same jump was shut down with all kinds of red flags blocking the approach… gee, I wonder why?. Anyway, there’s always next season!
