Princess Alice, second daughter of Queen Victoria, married Prince - TopicsExpress

Princess Alice, second daughter of Queen Victoria, married Prince Louis of Hesse (later Grand Duke Louis IV) on 1 July 1862. The marriage had been arranged before the death of the Prince Consort in December 1861 so Queen Victoria insisted that it should go ahead. However, it was a very modest affair, taking place in the dining room of Osborne House, with the family in mourning. Queen Victoria said that the event was more like a funeral than a wedding. Alice was a carrier of haemophilia, as was her daughter Alix, the future Tsarina of Russia.
