Probably the best part of my job is that Im able to meet and photograph the wonderful people I meet in each location I visit. Here in Romania, specifically in the region of Maramures, where I am right now, is no different, and Im lucky because its the season where everyone, young and old, seems to be in the fields cutting down hay so that it can be stacked to dry and stored for winter to feed the animals that provide the milk, meat, wool, leather and labor necessary for survival. Saw these men working from afar and then walked into the field to meet them. They were extremely nice, talked to us for quite a while (through my interpreter, of course) and allowed me to make some images as they cleaned and sharpened their instruments. The older gentleman said hes 76 and has been doing this every year since he was 12, and he was quick to mention that hes never been sick (not even a headache), never been to a doctor, has all his original teeth and plans to live many more years to come. He actually said he looks forward to seeing me back here in 100 years...could happen.
