Prof. Dr. Abida Taherani takes charge as SU VC JAMSHORO – Newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of University of Sindh (SU) Professor Dr. Abida Taherani formally took over the charge of her new office on Friday. Dr. Abida Taherani was warmly welcomed by the deans of faculties, office-bearers of Sindh University Officers Welfare Association (SUOWA), teachers’ leaders as well as employees. They amiably received the newly-appointed VC. The officers, teachers and employees of the varsity greeted the Vice-Chancellor with rose flowers and presented bouquets to her. She reached at Vice-Chancellor camp office, where acting VC Dr. Imdad Ali Ismaili handed over the charge to Prof. Dr. Abida Taherani and thus she has assumed the charge of her office as VC. Talking to the reporters on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abida Taherani said she wanted to develop Sindh University comprehensively so as to make it a model university in the country. She said that her priority was to provide quality education to students in the varsity. Dr. Taherani further said she wanted to create the best possible atmosphere for achieving excellence and she wanted to make the administration efficient, transparent and adaptable to e-governance. She said she had plans to train newly appointed teaching and non-teaching staff in order to get required goals. Vice-Chancellor said she would create opportunities for students to learn in a modern way with fully equipped class rooms. She said she would establish a new department named liberal arts so that the students express their point of views without any hindrances therein. This would help them in placement on higher positions. She also plans to set up University-Society interface centre and University-Industry interface centre on the campus in a bid to interact with society and attract the attention of the entrepreneurs to the trained students of the varsity. Dr. Taherani appealed to the teaching and non-teaching staff to dedicate themselves to develop the university.
