Prof. M. Anis, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded the prestigious Professor Panchanan Maheshwari Medal 2013 in recognition of his contribution in the field of Plant Biotechnology. The medal was conferred on him at the 36th Annual Conference of the Indian Botanical Society held at DDU Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. The P. Maheshwari Medal was instituted after Professor P. Maheshwari in 1977 in recognition of his valuable contribution to Botanical Studies and in appreciation of his services to the society. Prof. Reayat Khan, the former Chairman, Department of Botany and Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, was the first recipient of the Medal in 1978 and after a gap of 36 years, the medal has been awarded to Prof. M. Anis of AMU. More than 400 botanists and 100 research scholars from various states of the country participated in the conference. Prof. Anis has a teaching and research experience of about 28 years. His current research focuses on Morphogenesis and Plant Propagation In Vitro in some medicinal and woody trees of economic importance. He has published over 150 research papers in journals of international repute during the past 10 years. He is a recipient of the Vigyan Ratan Samman 2010 of the Council of Science and Technology, UP and Scientist of the Year Award 2007 of the National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi. He is currently a Program Coordinator of UGC-DRS I (2009-14) and DST-FIST (2011-16) in the Department of Botany, AMU. Prof. Anis has availed several fellowships under the International Exchange Programs and visited Slovak Republic, Germany, USA, Ontario, Canada and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
