Professionally edit or not to edit, that is the question. Ive - TopicsExpress

Professionally edit or not to edit, that is the question. Ive recently read several independent author novels that chose not to professionally edit their work, and unfortunately it showed in missed, dropped or wrong words, bad grammar, or poor punctuation. Ive written several novels, although until recently Ive held back on publishing. That said, my debut novel is currently undergoing professional editing ahead of its release--a personal choice to make sure I put my best work out there. What Id like to understand, from independent authors, is why they chose not to add that element to their work? Do you feel its not worth it? Does it not matter if independently published authors seek professionalism in their work? I ask because Im honestly curious as to why an independent author makes the choice to publish a flawed, but good story, over incurring the cost of a professional edit. Just wondering if Im wasting my money on something thats not necessary, or if from a personal perspective its money well spent. Does a professional edit help sales or make no difference?
