Project DASH: Divas Against the Spread of HIV: Last evening, Dr. Ndidi Amutah, the third annual recipient of the Ernest Just Prize for medical research that impacts African American health and quality of life, presented portions of her ongoing research at the Avery Research Center. Dr. Amutahs researches HIV prevention for African-American adolescent girls, who comprise the highest number of all new HIV cases among adolescents in the country. In an effort to examine predictors of infection risks, Dr. Amutah utilizes a mixed-method study to explore relationships and communication characteristics between mothers infected with HIV/AIDS, and their daughters. Dr.Amutah is a Certified Health Education Specialist, and has taught courses on Program Planning and Evaluation and Minority Women’s Health. She worked as a researcher in community-based research settings in a variety of areas including maternal and child health, health disparities, and HIV/AIDS, and has published and presented on HIV/AIDS and infant mortality in urban communities. Congratulations Dr. Amutah!
