Giving Our Children a Fair Start free·dom ˈfrēdəm/ 2. the power of self-determination attributed to the will noun noun: freedom In addition to securing our present, we believe in protecting our future. We believe in the potential of the individual—the next great doctors, artists, inventors, and leaders of the world are growing up next door. The solutions for today’s problems: the cure for cancer, the solution to global hunger, the answer to the energy crisis are playing in the nursery. The future is our kids. We want to make sure that every child has a chance, that all of them are provided with educational supplies, support, and guidance; money for food and medical attention; housing; access to counseling; presents for their birthdays. We do everything we can to make this possible, but the problem is too big for us. We need your help. Visit Volunteer or Donate to find out how you can help. Giving People Second Chances free·dom ˈfrēdəm/ 3. the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved noun noun: freedom As the third phase in our fight for freedom—we’ve talked about our efforts toward the present and the future—we need to address the past. The past, the past can’t change. But people can. We could quote you the statistics on prison overpopulation, the overwhelming costs of incarceration on the state and the individual, the statistics on recidivism—but behind all of those numbers are human beings. People with family and friends and others who care about them. People who have made bad choices and paid the price, but don’t have to be condemned by the decisions they made in the past. People who want to change, who want a fresh start, but don’t know where to begin. That is where we come in. Champions of Freedom offers court-ordered alternative social care to men and women facing incarceration. Our program focuses on Family, Belonging, Teamwork, Accountability, Commitment, and Restorative Justice, while teaching Job Training, Life Skills to create lifetimes free of re-incarceration.
