Psalm 68:5 Father of orphans, defender of widows, God in his holy - TopicsExpress

Psalm 68:5 Father of orphans, defender of widows, God in his holy habitation! I wonder what Gods holy habitation is like. Todays scriptures have lots of agricultural references in them, so I bet God has a garden. And if God has a garden, I suspect God doesnt have nearly the problem with beetles eating his broccoli that we do! But what really strikes me about Gods abode is that there always seems to be room for those who are left out, left over, and left behind in our world. God is the Father of orphans and protector of widows. This is particularly curious as these scriptures were written in an agricultural context. As such, scarcity and the temperamental fluctuations in the harvest were an ever-present reality for our biblical ancestors. This means that Gods blanket statement about having room in Gods holy habitation for widows and orphans is profound. Not only is God a consummate provider, but God also is a conscientious objector. God continually and conscientiously objects to the power-hungry and oppressor. God makes room for the weak, the vulnerable, the left out, the left over, and the left behind. This is good news. There is room enough for all of us in Gods holy habitation. Forward Day by Day.
