Publication News-Fall/Winter Hi Poets and Friends, Sorry for my silence. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to post anything. I’m healing beautifully after my recent bunion surgery on my left foot. I also need to find a less toxic job in January/ February that would suit my needs as a human being and give me time to write and socialize. Will be back with Brownstone Poets Anthology news after Christmas. In February, Brownstones will be back on track with readings and the 2014 Anthology readings at Barnes and Noble and Park Plaza Restaurant. Right now, I need to mend and focus on the present. Have a happy holiday season! The saffron and gold colors inspired me to write about it. After waking up, I thought about the colors described in Sweta Srivastava Vikram’s book, Kaleidoscope. But I didn’t write about my vivid experience until recently. The dream was hypnotic. The magnetic force from a Hindu man’s words pulled me eastward. Warm hues covered the southeastern section of the globe and the scene shifted to a Hindu temple. I woke up happy and contented. These colors held a special message. Raw and crusty, tough like the cast-iron frame of the El above. New Utrecht Avenue, ungentrified, guttural, honest, no B.S., working class. Name is Dutch as in Breukelen— remembers the Brooklyn of old, Brooklyn Dodger old, Abraham & Straus old. Mamma’s spaghetti sauce, Bubbie’s potato kugel, egg creams and Ebinger’s cakes, stickball and rock’n’roll doo woppers, the real Honeymooners of Bensonhurst. New Utrecht Avenue, Old School Brooklyn, Saturday Night Fever Brooklyn in faded photographs and on scratched 45s. Can’t fight the changes in the ’hood, just ride the D train to Coney Island— demographic shifts are everywhere, in language and the shops along its route. But New Utrecht Avenue is still New Utrecht Avenue. Bite into its letters— tastes like Brooklyn, the heart of Brooklyn.
