Published also in the Delaware State News yesterday, 10/9/14: Letter to the Editor – Attorney General? Graham is the Man 10-2-14 I happen to be acquainted with 3 candidates for Attorney General of Delaware. One stands out as a breath of fresh air, and fresh air is indeed needed in that office. Dave Graham has experience as a business management executive and is a long-time Delaware-licensed C.P.A by profession; has an eye for detail, conscientious about budget issues, and possesses the self- discipline needed in such a career. The Attorney General, and the Deputies in that office, are the most powerful and influential link in the criminal justice process – they bring charges, recommend sentences, and make plea offers. Eric Holder has been a terrific beacon of light in the federal system. Mr. Graham is shocked and appalled by the out of control violent crime in Delaware, like most of us. Like most enlightened judges, and A G Holder, Mr. Graham sees that the “get tough on crime “ mandatory sentences are not the answer to ending the violence and other crime plaguing our state. Although not a lawyer (don’t we have too many already?), Mr. Graham is a proven leader and knowledgeable in the law. David Graham also recognizes that our drug laws need serious modifications; we are ruining lives and wasting tens of millions of dollars annually imprisoning non- violent drug offenders and the mentally ill, spinning them through prison’s revolving door. Surely police and prosecutorial resources should be allocated more heavily toward solving violent crimes than locking up non-violent drug offenders. Having been a registered independent since watching the Watergate Senate hearings, which would “turn off” anyone from having confidence in politicians, I would vote for the Independent Party candidate for Attorney General, David C. Graham, and I urge all to do so … to improve Delaware. Ken Abraham, Dover, DE, 302-423-4067, former Deputy Attorney General, president, Citizens for Criminal Justice.
