A man described as mentally disabled was carjacked from a Newport parking lot Wednesday afternoon in an attack caught on video and remains missing. Newport Police said an unidentified suspect attempted to steal a carton of cigarettes from the Remke Market on Carothers Road about 2:30 p.m. The stores loss prevention officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, and the man displayed a gun and fled the scene. The suspect then ran across Grand Avenue to the parking lot adjacent to Newport Pavilion in front of Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle where he forced a driver out of his 2006 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van with a Kentucky temporary tag of 7737742 and a J.D. Byrider license plate on the front as witnesses tried to intervene and stop him. An employee at the T-Mobile caught the confrontation on cell phone video. Make Sure to Subscribe!
