Pupdate! All of you are aware that we picked up the five feral - TopicsExpress

Pupdate! All of you are aware that we picked up the five feral pups from the shelter in Louisville. Their mother raised them in a city dump, completely void of human contact. Four of them have done very well adjusting and have been adopted but little Susie still remains with us. Her very severe fear and insecurity make it impossible for us to adopt her out at this time. We are working with Danielle Fitzgerald from K9 Behaivoral Specialist to help Susie overcome her past. She came out to visit Susie this evening to try to help us to help Susie. At this point, anytime Susie is approached, she just shuts down completely because she is so terrified. During her assessment we also noticed that Susie is having issues with her hind end, specifically her legs. Since she isnt running around, playing and active like a normal puppy we dont know yet if the situation is an atrophy caused by her lack of muscle development through normal play or if she has genetic or degenerative muscle/bone/tendon problems that may need medically addressed. When Susie came to us she had pretty severe kennel cough, ringworm, she was severely underweight/malnurished and infested with internal parasites. Of course she saw the vet and got medication and medicated shampoo and ended up needing two full rounds of medication for tapeworm! So poor Susie has just been through so much in her short 15 weeks of life! We feel like its really important that she is given time to not just be treated medically but also mentally to help her overcome her fear and learn how to be a part of a human family. So at this time we just ask for a whole lot of positive thoughts, prayers and well wishes for sweet little Susie. We are dedicated to helping her through this! For those who have contacted us regarding adopting Susie, please be patient! We will not rush her, and we have no idea how long it will take for her to fully recover but we will let everyone know when she is ready for a new home. Thank you!!
