Purely Equinets news today :) What kind of hay do you use? I bought Teff (an African grass) for Kal (age 29) since he cant eat the wider, tougher varieties. Teff is very fine and has wonderful nutritional value. However, since it is a fine hay it tends to fall through the mesh holes a little easier. I swept up the bits and pieces back under the Equinets and without fail, Ambressence and Zephyr chose to graze from their nets rather than gulp down the free feed pile on the ground. Even Kal chose to nibble from the hay net even though I left the bucket of hay out for him. My theory is that they like the natural plucking action that the nets mimic as if grazing in a field. After a while I picked the ground hay up and put it back in the nets for my guys. I did however leave the bucket out for Kal and this morning found it untouched. Whats your experience and observations? Do your ponies prefer net grazing or loose hay on the ground?
