Pursuing my own perfection Due to circumstances way beyond my control I have had to take my first break since I embarked on my mission to fight as much as possible. My next match will not be until October FFS! (brings down my great average!) But fighting has taught me to see hurdles as opportunities and this is one that has allowed me to reflect on my career as a fighter so far. Why do I fight? Because it is difficult! It challenges who I am and forces me to grow, sometimes I am willing and sometimes I resist but learning to fight is a constant and true path, and has become an anchor to the rest of my life. It has shown me not to accept limitation and to always strive toward my own perfection that I am only capable of. Its a hard journey at times and those times the voices say quit, stay home eat cake with the kids but I drag myself to the gym, then the voices fade (ok often the cake voices return argh!!!). It is amazing to me the amount of criticism I have been gifted…No, you cant fight in a 10kg weight range No you cant be ranked across several divisions No you shouldnt get media coverage you only just started No you cant fight every weekend no you cant pursue both boxing and Muay Thai to an elite level NO youre too old to represent your country No you cant be a good mother and a selfish fighter…I say gifted because these sentiments seem to be thrown at me when I am low on motivation, and they help provide a clarity to my training and focus that is welcomed. I read the words pursuing my own perfection today and I realised that is what I am doing. I am no Saenchai no Issy no technically gifted fighter that I love to watch again and again on slow mo and aspire to become. I am a driven grafter, I am a mother who knows that every hour I spend at the gym is an hour I am removed from my childrens life and it motivates me to work hard, every improvement I have made has not come easy, it has been earned, honestly. I started fighting amateur only a year ago and I have stepped into the ring 18 times so far. I bring the best that I have and try to outwork all the other fighters in the ring and at training. I come to fight. It is you and me bringing our best and not knowing the outcome. I dont fight pretty. I dont trash talk my opponents and I wont put down any other fighter, they are on their journey, I am on mine and this moment and the road ahead is my only concern. I fight to pursue my own perfection and because its one of the best journeys you can go on, and the only one I want. Thanks to Paul, Bella, Sunny and Tane for supporting my goals. This sport art lifestyle takes time and passion and thanks to the MTI team its been a great ride so far.
