Q: Give example of artists responding to exclusionary politics of the art world. A: I must have lived in an artistic void for the majority of my life because as long as I can recall there has been ample exposure given to artist of every creed, color, faith, ethnicity, gender, preference, and age. Are there really barriers which still hinder an artist from advancing in the art world. My understanding through exposure has always been those who are willing and put the work in are those who get rewarded. Being an artist is an occupation just like any other and when you work hard you advance. Sadly, it has taken me 41 years to discover this. I also wonder how accurate this statement really is. Yes it has been historically acknowledged that women and other groups have been excluded to varying degrees, and some have broken into notoriety through deception AND talent. But overall, once the veil was lifted and prejudices exposed there began a shift for the most part to eradicate this barrier. Yes there will always be the undereducated ignoranti who will sometimes gain a voice of pseudo-authoritariety, but does this real quantify current exclusionary practices. Furthermore, the artists who respond to this exclusion, are they not only feeding into and legitimizing the practice? I have always believed there is only one way to combat ignorance... Dont. As far as an example of an artist response to this practice. Self publishing.
