Q. I have recently sold my house and moved into a rented flat - TopicsExpress

Q. I have recently sold my house and moved into a rented flat which is more suitable for my needs. My husband who has recently died used to sort out all the finances and paperwork and I am concerned about insurance. My landlord has told me that he has sorted out the insurance cover but that it will not cover my things. What do I need to do? A. Usually in a rented property, the landlord is responsible for insuring the building and any of their property (such as furniture provided) which may be what your landlord is referring to. The tenant usually needs to have contents insurance in place to cover your own furniture and belongings, but you do need to check what is in your tenancy agreement. If you do need contents insurance there are lots of companies, including Age UK, that provide this, but the cover level will vary so you should shop around to see what the best price is for the level of cover you need. Age UK also produces a free booklet on Tenants rights that you may also find useful. Kind regards
