Q: Why are people so afraid of spiders? A: The fear of spiders, known as Arachnophobia, is one of the leading fears in the world. Most of it is pumped up through inaccurate, and often negative societal positions on spiders, that overlook the positive and interesting aspects that some of our fellow arachnids possess. However, a true percentage of the fear comes from the present danger that certain spiders can possess. Some spiders, just like some snakes, carry dangerous venoms that can be lethal. The fear of spiders also appears to be present due to a genetic instinct that humanity has learned: Arachnids can kill, which may explain for why just SO many fear the spider. In general, spiders have many positive aspects, even if they look terrifying. Some spiders, sometimes hard to identify, should be feared for the right reasons, but most are not a threat, rather a help, to the normal human being. (Mosquitoes suck!)
