QUIET TIME: GOD’S VISITATION AND YOUR SUPPLICATIONS: Genesis 3:8a I King 19:11-15. The Quiet Time is a priceless hour for every believer. It is a period specially set aside for personal daily devotion, a time when believers surrender their minds, will, and body to the supernatural presence and teaching of God. It is a time when they can rest in God, wait on Him, listen to Him and talk with Him. This is the secret of growth, success and great achievements of all God’s children. However barrenness can still come if the proper approach, attitude and application are not followed. Much dryness and defeat in the lives of many Christians can be traced to the absence of an enriching quiet time. A quiet time that is observed as a mere religious observance will not give the needed spiritual nourishment. We must find out how to get into the glorious experience of Divine visitation, abiding in God’s holy presence and regularly enjoying answers to our prayers. GODLY PRACTICE OF QUIET TIME: Mk 1:35; Gen 19:27; Ps 5:3 1 Kgs 19:7; Jn 15:5; Exo.33:11,14; 1 Pet 2:2; Josh 1:8. Ps 1:1-3; Jam 4:8. Every sincere believer must endeavor to have steady communion with God early in the morning or at any other time when the mind is still very fresh and unoccupied. Such time should be kept each day and nothing should be allowed to interfere with it. The inner man is strengthened to meet the day’s challenge. It affords an opportunity for systematic Bible Study and Prayer. There are various challenges to overcome if we must sustain our quiet time and enjoy God’s visitation:- (i). The pull of day’s activities - Job 23:12; 1 Kgs.20:40. (ii)Waking up late. Prov.6:9-11. (iii) Unavailability of a quiet place - Gen 28:10-12. iv. Distracting objects. Gen 32:22-24. We must avoid all distractions and have a plan using useful aid for a profitable quiet time. Our quiet time will be more interesting and enriching if we use. (1) A good Bible with concordance (KJV) - Josh 1:8; Deut 17:18-20 (2.) An aid to daily Bible Study i.e. “Higher every day”, or daily manna and (3) A Quiet time note book. GOD’S VISITATION DURING QUIET TIME: Mark 1:35, Genesis 19:27; Psalm 5:3, 55:17 Gen 3:8 Luke 18:1, Ephesians 6:18, Philippians 4:6 I King 19:11-15. We must come for our quiet time with a reverence for God, prayerful attitude and with great expectation to receive from the Him. As you come to the Bible each day, take time to pray that God will help you to understand what you are about to read and meditate on. There should be great passion, a purposeful fellowship, willingness to learn and obey during our quiet time. We must be conscious of our human frailty and His omnipotence. The desire to live out the implications of whatever particular truths God impresses upon us, during the time of study and meditation, is what brings the presence of God. God always visits His children at quiet moment and seeks to abide with us. God inhabits the praises of His people and we must avoid the snare of being a demanding child rather we should be grateful and loving children. We must approach God with an attitude of appreciation, praise and thanksgiving to enjoy His visitation. Obedience to God, Sincerity of purpose, a humble heart and a meek spirit are necessary to enjoy God’s visitation. The presence of God is like a dew that waters our heart and further increases the intensity of our love for God. Joy, peace, rest, inner cleansing and assurance of divine guidance come with God’s visitation. GODLY SUPPLICATIONS IN OUR QUIET TIME: 1 Timothy 2:1,2; Ephesians 6:18-20 Psalm 66:18; 32:6; 145:19; Proverbs 1:24,25,28; 15:8,29; 21:13; 28:9; Zechariah 7:11-13; John 15:7; 1 John 3:22.
