Queer stories tonight at Wow Cafe!!!! QUEERSTORIES WRITING WORKSHOP Sunday, June 16th, 2:00pm-3:30pm WOW Café, 59-61 East 4th St., (b/t Bowery & 2nd Ave) This workshop aims to liberate the body, mind and spirit through art, through practice and connecting it to the most intimate source; your own experience(s) and unique identity. Come with an open mind and willingness to move and be moved by how individuals create, reflect, construct and transform resiliency through art. This will equip participants with the skills and knowledge to catalyze creative healing process for themselves and their communities. SELF-DEFENSE/ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS TRAINING Sunday, June 16th, 4:00pm-5:00pm WOW Café, 59-61 East 4th St., (b/t Bowery & 2nd Ave) With an increasing instance of violence against the LGBTIQ community in the NY area, it is completely necessary that we know basic self-defense techniques. And while some may argue that police intervention may also be key in defending our communities, the local authorities have not always shown the competence it takes to properly interact with the LGBTIQ community, often victimizing us instead of defending us. QUEERSTORIES OPEN MIC Sunday, June 16th Doors open at 6pm for the mixer Show is from 7pm-9pm WOW Café, 59-61 East 4th St., (b/t Bowery & 2nd Ave) Suggested Donation: $10 This event is open to everyone as a means to unveil our experiences as a Filipina/o LGBTIQ community. Occurring on Father’s Day, a figure that typically embodies our struggles with masculinity for many of us, we hope to create a brave space where our communities can represent our experiences proudly. There will be a sign-up sheet of the LGBTIQ community at large who would like to share the stories and perform will be able to do so. SAVE THE DATE! We will be using this platform in order to bring attention to the need for genuine social change in our communities while looking fabulous in doing so!
